Before you buy or sell a used i7-13700K

Ask about the BIOS before buying. In 2024 Intel confirmed a voltage fault that can make 13th and 14th generation desktop chips unstable over time. Later microcode stops further damage but does not repair a chip already affected, so test any used 13700K under a heavy load straight away.

Intel added two years to the warranty on boxed chips in this range after the fault came to light, so a seller with the receipt should say so. The chip fits LGA1700 boards and works with DDR4 or DDR5 depending on the board. 600-series boards need a BIOS update first, and there is no cooler in the box.
